Cory Muro (owner) opened Valley Kitchen & Bar in 2011 with his wife Blair (owner). Two years later in 2013, he opened Tomato Bar Valpo with his best friend Jeff, followed by a 2014 location in Schererville. And so, clearly, a 2015 concept was born in order to keep this ambitious trend going.
Enter The Market, where Cory and Blair’s passion in using local ingredients and dedication to delivering a quality product continues. Together with Jason Rudy (owner), who worked at Strongbow for eight years before serving as executive chef at Valley for three years, they are eager for this fresh challenge.
Our desire lies in being the premium event space in Northwest Indiana, by not only offering a unique event space, but also serving high quality food and drinks within those events to make the food and drinks as special as the event itself.

There is no doubt that everything that The Market is and stands for would not exist if it weren’t for all of the people involved in delivering it everyday. The following people make up the core of The Market, but there are many more incredible individuals that make The Market special.
Owner / Operator
Blair, born and raised in LaCrosse, IN her roots in agriculture are entrenched in generations of family farming. Shortly after earning her bachelor’s degree in Hospitality from Purdue University, she set sail to see the world. She traveled throughout Europe for over a year and eventually found her way to the Rocky Mountains. She spent some time in Jackson Hole, WY and then Vail, CO; where she met the love of her life – Cory. The couple went on to move to Telluride, CO together before they decided to open Valley back in Blair’s hometown. Blair always dreamed of opening a bed & breakfast, but Valley allows her to provide hospitality to guests in the same way a bed & breakfast can. Blair’s role at Valley is in almost every aspect of the restaurant, but she focuses on managing the daily operations and making sure all of Valley’s guests leave with a smile. Her new adventure is The Market. The Market will add a new fresh restaurant to Valpo. The Market will also include a place to host your special events.
Owner / Operator
Born in Augusta, GA and raised on Florida’s panhandle, Cory’s roots entrench the Deep South. Early on, Cory developed his passion for food along with his French Cajun style of cooking from his great grandma. Since then, Cory has had a passion for cooking. Later in life, Cory learned his culinary knowledge the old fashioned way – hard work. With not much money for culinary school and a passion for wanting to be a talented chef, Cory took low paying positions in the kitchens of some of the country’s best chefs. It was working at Sweet Basil in Vail, CO where he met Blair. Cory is responsible for The Market’s menu design, implementation and execution.
Owner/ Executive Chef
Born and raised in Valparaiso, Jason does his best to represent Midwest cooking at The Market. When searching for inspiration, he often looks to his youth – hours spent in the kitchen with Grandma and Mom, the weekly Sunday lunches and dinners with extended family around a large table and grilling with Dad on weekdays. The result is a non-fussy approach to food that is less “flash” and more substance. When not developing The Market’s menus or managing the amazing kitchen staff, he can be found enjoying a Miller High Life while blasting Pearl Jam or Drive-By Truckers at high volume. But more often than not, you’ll find him hanging out with his two charming daughters and his wife, Tara.
